WOW NICE FISH PHIL WELL DONE

Well it has finally happened. After many years trying and some very frustrating moments, all the stars aligned on Friday night.
Arriving at the top end of Eucumbene at 2030, was surprised to be the only one there. Could have been due to the thunder storms rolling through dumping a fair amount of rain in the area.
Made a brew and waited til the thunder and lighting stopped then hit the water around 2130. Third cast, hook up, then just as quick, busted off. Did not seem like a big fish, and a quick check of the leader pointed to the problem, my bad, poor knot.
After trying new leader, and checking knots, back into it. Fishing was steady til about 2330, with four in the net and a few others that decided to perform a self release.
By this time the stars were out and it was a still moonless night, when a fish grabbed hold of my version of a Craig's night time. At first there was a little break on the surface, and I thought, not real big but it's a fish. Little did I know. After about five minutes I was starting to change my mind, as this fish went deep and was not coming off the bottom anytime soon. 25 minutes later and the fish was still holding the bottom and my arm was starting to burn with the constant pressure on the rod. I had the fish off the bottom a couple of times yet every time back down it went, although each time it took a little longer than the last to get back down. Another 15 minutes and was starting to win the battle, the fish broke the surface for the first time since the initial hook up and went ballistic. In the darkness I could see white water everywhere, and one very large, upset fish. I then decided it was time to move this fish into the shallows, switch the head lamp on a see what I had. It was at this time that I started to think about knots, weeds, net and everything that could go wrong. Keeping as clam a possible relying on my self control I played the fish out until it was laying on the surface in about 2 foot of water, grab the net and slid it under the fish and lifted in one motion. Calamity once more, one very large upset brown trout in the net, one very excited fisherman shaking and yahooing like no tomorrow. With arm across the top of the net made my way back to shore, looked closely at the fish and decided that it was at least 10 pounds. Have always said that once I got a fish of this size that I would get it mounted. A little tap on the head, some quick photos, and back to the ute as I was done for the night. Back at the ute, more photos, a beer and put the fish on ice.

Needless to say the drive home was a happy one and the smile has still not left. Saturday morning kids ask "how did you go fishing", simple reply "good". Pulled the fish out of the esky and two jaws hit the floor. A few more photos, then fished wrapped in glad wrap, into the freezer ready to be dropped off to get mounted.

Details:
Weight - 10lb 8oz  -  4.91KG
Length - 70cm

Still smiling today.

Phil
