Snowy Mountains Trout Festival 2006 !
This years 33rd annual Yamaha / Freshwater Fishing Snowy Mountains Trout Festival will be run from Saturday the 4th of November to Friday the 10 th of November 2006. The last weigh in time will be 10am on Friday morning.FULL DETAILS @ http://www.troutfestival.com

GOOD NEWS 
TWO NEW Launching areas - Snowy River Shire Council & Snowy Hydro have upgraded and cleared off the silt from the old Denison st at Old Adaminaby and added gravel to the top turning/parking area as well - along with upgrading an area at Anglers Reach as well. These ramps can now be used to launch larger boats with out too much trouble. This ramp will now be cleared regularly to keep access for launching boats open on lake Eucumbene.Snowy Hydro are also looking at improving launching area's at Anglers Reach and the Dam wall - so we'll keep you posted. *Buckenderra have also upgraded their launching area and you can now launch boats up to 4 metres with a four wheel drive at the Eucumbene cover.

Rivers:- ARE NOW ALL OPEN And what an opening weekend it was on both the Eucumbene & Thredbo rivers - with some anglers commenting it was the most amount of fish they had EVER seen in the Eucumbene !! It was all glo bugs & nymphs - and those who are experianced in this style of fly fishing caught as many as 30-40 a session. With the unseasonably warm weather there where even a few fish taken on dries Sunday afternoon - using a large dry as an indicator is actualy a good approach 
*Eucumbene River 30th September 06
*G'day,Fished the Eucumbene River for trout opening on the weekend, between 3 of us fly fishing we caught 145 fish over Sat. & Sun. 139 rainbows & 6 browns. All fish averaged 2lb. Very good fishing & great fun. Cheers, Brett Wood
This fishing should continue for quite a while or until we get a good fresh to raise the river hieghts and get them to drop back after spawning.
Lake Eucumbene:- Still some very nice rainbows averaging .800 grams to 1kg being caught at present. Look for the steeper shale banks around the dam wall area as it's easier to stay out of the mud. There have been some nice browns being spotted through the day in these areas too. The weather has warmed up quite a bit so is looking good for some evening sessions in the next few weeks.
Lake Tantangara :- Been a few fish about on nymphs and streamers of an evening - and conditions should pick up as the lake sneaks up and the weather warms.
Lake Jindabyne:- Their have been a few browns cruising the margins, with some very nice fish being seen again over the last few high pressure systems. Seeing them and catching them can be two very different things when polaroiding - which is half the challenge. Make sure you walk slowly well back from the waters edge as you'll be surprised how close they will swim at times. As you want good light starting on the Eastern side of lake Jindabyne in the morning is often best with the sun behind you. The best light is between 9am and 3pm , switching to the Western shore line after lunch to again get the sun from behind. Fly patterns worth having in your box for palaroiding include , Bushy's horror, woolly buggers, scruffy's, Rosella's , Jindy buggers , sand cased caddis and black & peacocks. If you get refusals on these I like to throw a rock at them - you'll at least feel better ! Feel free to ask us how to best have a go at polaroiding as it can be some of the most exciting fishing of the season and is generally at it's best over the next two months. Area's worth a look include Stinky Bay, Sid's bay, Hatchery Bay, Creel Bay , Snowy arm and Kalkite.You can also target that trophy fish right through winter around the mouth of the Thredbo river at Waste point/Creel Bay, so long as your not fishing in flowing waters well below the first set of rapids.
We have had some reports of good evening fishing in Jindabyne on Ham killers and woolly buggers, so there is good fishing to be had if conditions don't allow for the polaroiding.
Lure Fishing

The soft plastic fishing amongst the trees at Eucumbene has been nothing short of fantastic. Anglers have reported hooking up to 30 fish in a session with some fish getting close to the 4kg mark. This fishing will continue right through the season, so if you haven't had a go at it yet there is still time to give it a go. Small minnow pattern lures like Rapala's, Attacks, Merlins and bladed lures like Celtas and Vibrax will also be great in the rivers from this Saturday.
