The Alpine Angler, Rod Allen

Typical of the rainbows on offer in the upper

The Eucumbene river has settled after the winter flow and producing nice sized fish on dry fly. Caddis were hatching through out the day and just on evening the mayfly came down to drop eggs. Even a bit of early hopper action was very enjoyable. The upper Murrumbidgee has also began to drop in flow making dry fly fishing very pleasant and rewarding. Tantangarra is on the rise since the portal has been shut down and fishing great in the last hour of light particularly around the soaks as the lake rises. Eucumbene continues to fish well as it has all winter, with all methods accounting for good fish, Mick has enjoyed a few good sessions of late using the trusty nymph... Tight lines!

Patto, on the Murrumbidgee

FLY FISHING LAKE EUCUMBENE
Fly fishing has Improved down at the bottom end of the lake with some good reports coming from Wainui Bay, Middling Bank, Seven Gates and Rushes Bay.
Wainui bay has been on fire with the rainbows and browns over the last week with the wet flies Woolly Buggers, Nymphs, Mrs Simpsons.
Best times have been early mornings and late afternoons into the dark.
Over at Middling bank bead head nymphs and buggers olive have been the pic late in the afternoons.
Seven gates fuzzy wuzzys late in the afternoon.
Rushes bay woolly buggers black and brown again afternoons.
Overall it’s been ok but the best times are around 6pm till 9pm once it’s dark fuzzy have been really good.

FLY FISHING LAKE JINDABYNE
Jindy hasn’t been bad at all fish are starting to rise everywhere small and big , Best areas to fish are the big shallow bays with plenty of grass that’s where the food is so it’s worth a go before night fall mostly over at the western side of the lake.
Let’s hope this lake keeps going well and if not i think we all will be needing answers from the powers to be??

FLY FISHING TANTANGARA
If your thinking about going up there you have made the right choice the lake is dropping but it’s still fishing well top end has been doing well  good rainbows and browns.
Woolly Buggers, Mrs Simpsons, Woolly Worms

TROLLING LAKE EUCUMBENE
Trolling has been going well around Eucumbene with the tassie devils doing the damage every day has been different on the tassie’s so get them on you should do well.
Other lures have been doing well are the spotted dogs in 7’s,9’s and 13’s other lure you should try is the bullet lures and the blades.
No need to go deep the water is cool so the fish are moving around in close and out wide.
Best areas are Braemer bay, Seven Gates and up around old Adaminaby.

Some great trout action at Eucumbene for Andrew and Mark Chaplin =M Great fishing guys

TROLLING LAKE JINDABYNE
Trolling has been picking up around jindy with some good fish on the bite up at Kalkite good reports with browns, Brookies and rainbows.
Rapalas, Blades, Bullet and Tassie’s are all going well.
Over around at hatchery bay and reports have been good on tassie’s and spotted dog rapala’s again like Eucumbene try any tassie you should do well yes lake was dropping but it’s steady now and there’s plenty of water running in so if you are after some good fishing this is the time to get to Jindabyne.

 TROLLING TANTANGARA
Trolling is really good up that way with some good reports coming from the top end, Tassie’s, Rapala’s Spotted Dogs and Bullets are the lures to use.
This is the place i would go at the moment yes its dropping but it’s still going gang busters on all lures.
Both gates are open but you can’t drive around the lake as yet.
Overall the fishing is going great.

BAIT FISHING BOTH LAKES
Bait fishing has been the same all winter just amazing fish have been smashing the worms all winter and still going well power bait is doing ok but it’s the worms that are working the best
Most areas are fishing well on both lakes you just need to get out there wind snow or sunshine it’s worth it.
